Student cards

Full-time students at Savonia University of Applied Sciences are entitled to receive a student card. Part-time students and those pursuing a master’s degree at the university are also eligible for a student card, provided that their studies are degree-oriented.

PLASTIC STUDENT CARD

The student card serves as an ID card on campus, a recognition card for multifunction devices, and as a key for storage lockers. For health care students, the student card also functions as an ID card during internships. As a member of the student union, this national student card grants you access to all local and national student discounts. To be eligible for these discounts, your student card must have a valid sticker, which serves as proof of your membership fee payment to the student union.

Students who are present on campus will have their photos taken by the student union or tutors during the first week of studies. Remember to provide your data transfer consent before the photo session. You will receive a notification to your Savonia email about the completion of your card approximately three weeks after the photo session.

If you did not participate in the student card photo session or are primarily studying remotely, you can order a plastic student card through our online store. This can be done after you have given your data transfer consent and received a confirmation email from Savonia. Your student card order must include a headshot photo taken against a light background, cropped from the shoulders up. You will receive a notification to your Savonia email about the completion of your card approximately three weeks after placing your order.

SLICE MOBILE STUDENT CARD

As a member of the student union, you have the option to download the Slice mobile student card to your phone. The mobile student card functions similarly to the plastic student card. By presenting the card, you can receive student benefits from VR (Finnish Railways) and Matkahuolto, as well as meal subsidies from KELA. Additionally, the app provides access to thousands of local and national Slice student discounts!

The validity sticker for the mobile student card does not update automatically, even if you have paid the membership fee for multiple years. The mobile student card can be activated within 24 hours after you receive the validity sticker for your plastic card or request the activation of the mobile student card.

Instructions for Activating the Slice Mobile Student Card

  1. The mobile student card requires a photo to function. The photo must be saved in the SAVOTTA membership register before downloading the card. If you participated in the student card photo session or uploaded your photo when ordering online, the photo will be automatically transferred to the system. If you did not attend the photo session or attach a photo during the online order, you can add the photo through this form.
  2. Pay the student union membership fee in the online store or at the service points on the Microkatu campus.
  3. If you paid the membership fee online, submit a mobile student card activation request. This request is not necessary if you paid the membership fee at the Microkatu campus service points.
  4. You will receive the credentials needed to activate the mobile student card in your Savonia email within 24 hours. Remember to check your spam folder!
  5. If you did not receive an activation email from Slice, try resetting the card information using this link. After resetting, you will receive new credentials to download Slice. Please note that before resetting, you must have paid the student union membership fee for the 2024-2025 academic year and uploaded a photo to the system.

 

Did Your Mobile Student Card Stop Working?

The mobile student card checks the validity of your study rights from Savonia and the status of your membership fee in the SAVOTTA membership register. If your mobile student card has stopped working, the reason might be one of the following:

  • Your study rights at Savonia have ended, you have graduated, or there have been other changes in your study status. The mobile student card is only valid for degree students who are currently enrolled.
  • Your student union membership fee for the academic year 2024-2025 has not been paid. Please pay your membership fee in the student union’s online store or at the service points.
  • You have not picked up the new validity sticker for your plastic student card from the service points, or you have not requested activation of your mobile student card.
